20ppc or 22ppc with heavy bullets
I would like to compare notes with others who like these. I've been shooting a Savage model 12 with a Lilja 9twist chambered for 20ppc. It shot very well with Berger 55s and Varget at arround 3400fps. Fearing that is was close to the end at around 2000 rounds, I ordered a replacement from Lilja last year with a 7twist (Berger's recommendation). I have been disappointed so far with the new barrel not shooting as well as the older one did. So far, I have not tried powders other than Varget. I intend to experiment a little if it ever stops snowing (Minnesota). The reason that I mentioned 22ppc is that there are more bullet options. I was contemplating getting my old barrel rebored to 22 cal. if that might be an option(advice welcome). I should say that I am committed to fast twist heavy bullet theory to get minimal wind drift. (I also have a 20 vartarg barrel shooting 32g. BKs which gives me enough practice estimating wind drift.) Thanks for any input.

I have zero experience here but I would like to make mention of a 22 creedmoor to utilize the new 95gr smk. the extra case capacity may be helpful to drive that heavy guy.

Never heard of anyone able to rebore to 22 cal. Let us know if you find someone. I know Jess doesn't.

I know that it can be done, usually with bigger calibers I think.

20ppc or 22ppc with heavy bullets
Do not believe they re-bore the barrel, but bore it out and put a bored liner in that has the new bore diameter. Bill K

Bill i've heard of both but the bore/regroove i've seen were commonly for bringing new life to old relics. I knew a guy who was going to buy an old 35 remington from me and have it bored/rifled/ and chambered in 38-55. he sent me a link to the guy who did it as I was curious as well.

I've had an old 243 barreled bored out to .358 and re-rifled by Norman Johnson. It was cut rifled after the boring process. He did a very nice job and it shoots well as a 358 Winchester now. Not sure on the possibility of going from .204 to .224. I believe he makes his own button rifled barrels too. Here is his info I used at the time. 2014 was the last time I contacted him and it was good then.

agreed! almost making me want to abort my .260 build but i'm to far into it and not to mention building the rifle around 1 bullet can be putting the eggs in one basket as they say. granted their is the 90gr berger and smk

Thanks again guys for the input. I should have known that the rebore question would generate more comments. What I would actually appreciate more is to hear from guys who are actually shooting 20ppc or 22ppc with heavy bullets. What powders, bullets, twist rates, velocities, etc.
