It could be the barrel, or just the barrel throat.
Was the barrel set back when it was Ked?
If not, I would drop by CPC and have them set the barrel back a turn and see if magic happens. More often than not, it's the factory Hornet chamber throat that is the issue, and having them set the barrel back a turn might just be the cure.

If you go the new barrel route, I think I'd opt for the 17 option. The recoil is so low, it's easy to see the action upon impact.

Ok then that’s the plan. Do you know what’s involved when forming cases for the 17? I figure I might be able to just use my bushing die to go from 22-20?
Not sure about the 17.
Can’t thank you enough for the help.

Don't know if this would help you or not, but on my 20 VT case's, all I do is run them into my 17 Fb die and it is sized down with the one pass. Then load and shoot them in the 17 FB.
Don't know why your hornet case from 20 to 17 would not do the same in your sizing die.

Default 22 - 20 - 17

Bullberry makes a die that would likely do just what you want. One end reduces 22 caliber to 20 caliber and the other end reduces 20 caliber to 17 caliber.

Very useful die and pretty low cost - or at least it was when I bought mine (back when dirt was a new thing!).

Current cost appears to be $45

Just get the 17 HH.....I have multiples of both the 17 Ah and the 17 HH. The factory Hornady 17HH ammo shoots a bit under 1/2" out of all of my CZ 17HH's and I don't have to reload...my 17 AH's smithed by Greg Tannel are truly 1/8" guns, but the crows can't tell the difference.....just my 2 cents worth...

Ok great thanks to all. I’m surprised nobody shoots a 20 AH??
I guess that is telling. Thanks again everyone hope you all have a happy and safe New Year.

Surprised more hasn't spoke up for the 20 Ack Hornet. I have both and the 20 doesn't take a back seat to the 17 Ack Hornet.

Default 17 AH vs 20 AH

Didn’t Montdoug do a 20 Ack Hornet? Surprised he hasn’t spoken up - or maybe my memory is faulty again??

While I really enjoyed the 17 AH, I think the 20 AH would likely be more useful to me. But then, the 20 VarTarg is probably the most useful of the small caliber cartridges (IMO).

Gary, Doug did one and so did Larry in Ga. I have a brain freeze who else did. The difference really boils down to are you a 17 cal fan or a 20 cal fan.
