Wyoming
Good morning folks,
Anyone in the Cody area. After 27 years of criss crossing WY on vac my wife and I are leaving AZ and heading north when she retires at the end of May. Signed a purchase agreement on Sun, now the fun starts of culling 28 years of stuff/crap. Michael. |

I live in Casper but do get up to Cody on occasion. I have a couple of friends up there. Wonderful place but like here in Casper, they do get some pretty strong winds during the winter months.
Good luck to you and enjoy our great state! |

It was a bit nippy when we flew out of Billings yesterday, -4 and bbbbreezy. 70 when we landed in Tucson.
Never thought of changing my name... Hmm, WY Sam. I could do that, it will cost you though. Would you be game for "Wizard of Oz"? Lol, just kidding. For some odd reason I have always associated the NT for camels, I gather they are a bit more wide spread. Where in NSW are you, Wagga Wagga area or elsewhere? |

Me and my new bride left Wyoming just after college graduation, and I have only returned since then to visit my wife's kin, to shoot PD's, and for periodic winter trips to hunt coyotes. Mixed in with those have been a few big game hunting trips. For AZSAM: Wyoming has changed considerably since then, but for the most part its still a very conservative state. The western end with the mountains and incredible scenery has become a mecca for many liberal from other parts of the country. Sadly they bring their philosophies of life and politics with them. Cody is on the east edge of that and its slowly creeping eastward all of the time. Whenever there are mountains to be bought, liberals with money move in. I'm not meaning to rain on anyone's parade, but just being realistic about the current conditions. And I do hope that you find a new life in Wyoming. Enjoy it while you can as, "The old times, they are a changing". -BCB

Back in the '70's I made many a trip hauling pipe to
both Casper and Gillette. And a bunch of loads of heavy equipment to and from many places up there. Since Dec '75 I've made two trips by car to Cheyenne is all. There's not many US or state hwy's up there I haven't run a rig over. Don't know how I ever missed all those mountains you guys talk about. Didn't even see them coming from the NW corner on Hwy 30 a few times. I did run the Three Sisters likely 60 times or so, both ways. Quite a hill going E on I-80 from Cheyenne, though I wouldn't call that a "mountain". For "making a mile" that's a great road to run across, Had a g/f I picked up in Ga. We spent a weekend in the park at Cody on the way back from Calgary. Sure enjoyed the elk there that nice summer day. Strange doings, all she had for ID was a SS card. Talk about a hassle at the border! They'd never allow her thru now.

Having been raised in W Colo it sickens me to see what is happening there. My wife and purchased a couple of acres in Dubois, WY some 15 years ago to build on when we retired, then my employer closed their N.American office. which tossed a wrench into the works. Several years ago ee opted to sell it and just buy outright when the time came.
The first time we were in Dubois, we were walking down the street after dinner and was looking out of curiosity at the pics in window of one of realtors. An agent came to chat with us and told us the story of a man from somewhere back east that came through the year before and was talking (blah blah blah) with/to the owner. The owner informed him that in general WY is very conservative, we hunt, fish, go to church on Sunday, drive around with rifles in the back window of our trucks, and dogs and kids in the truck beds. If you want move here, and assimilate into our communities, and embrace our culture and lifestyle, you are more than welcome to come here.... But.. if you are going come here and try to change things to what they are where you come from, the road goes east, and road goes west. You'd best get in your car and pick a direction. We have found those feelings are still pretty well rooted in many parts of WY. On the south side of Cody on Hwy 120, there is a billboard "Don't California Cody". I am not so naive to not realize that some liberals will want to try an call it home. Unlike S. Arizona and now Colo, I don't have to, and will not be all nicey, nicey about it. However I will invite them to stand guard over my deer/elk carcass when I go hunting up in mountains WSW of Meeteetse (our new home), and try to fend off anything that wants it until I get it completely packed out. |
