Per bullet price?
I was doing some figuring trying to come up with a per bullet price if I were to start making my own 20 cal bullets. And I came up with about $0.10 a piece, is this about right?
Now keep in mind I know that the cost savings really doesn’t have anything to do with it, it’s about making what you shoot and making a better bullet. But you can’t explain that to a wife who has no interests in shooting what so ever. For her I have to try and come up with a “cost savings in the long run, look how much I could save” load of horse manure to try and convincer it’s the right thing to do. Thanks g-

Response edited because I misread the question. No experience bullet making.

For what you will spend in equipment you could buy a lifetime supply and still have all your free time left. People that make bullets do it from a standpoint of satisfation in shooting their own bullets unless they do it full time.

I agree with what Michael said.
For the $1500 initial investment I made ~8 years ago, I could have bought a lot of bullets. Unfortunately there were not a lot of 20 caliber bullets available when I made the investment (pre-204 Ruger days). So, at the time it was a good investment for me from my personal point of view. Making your own bullets is not the most fun I've had in life. It's rewarding shooting them, but that does not totally offset the time or effort involved. In today's world with quite a few factory 20 caliber bullet choices, I doubt I'd even consider buying a swaging set-up. On the other hand, even today I don't buy many factory 20 caliber bullets because I'd rather shoot my own. But I have to make the time to keep myself supplied when I could be doing something else more enjoyable. And I definitely have no plans to make 17 or 22 caliber bulets in the future when I can easily buy them... JMO - BCB

Thank for the input I realize that it’s not a way to save money I was just looking for a way to try and convince my wife that it was worth doing. But it sounds like it might not even be a good hobby unless you shoot in benchrest matches.
Thanks so much for your time and keep up the posting. I’ll learning a lot.

Try the insanity plea.
Dear, my job is so stressful that I need a way to vent. Making bullets will help me do that. Otherwise, I fear I may be taking up drinking or golf or something worse.

Supply/Demand
The reason that I got bullet making equipment was the same, availability. I started shooting a .30BR early on before many folks were shooting them and the only real option for .30 cal bullets was BIB, and Fowler. I had a hunch that the .30 was going to be big, and was concerned about component availability. I also had the urge to be "roll my own". It wasn't about cost, cause I could've bought plenty enough bullets to supply my own shooting for what is tied up in bullet making equipment. And after we started making bullets, we supplied a few of our friends along the way that we shot with locally. We've never been able to get any extras built up on the shelf.
