Default Cz 17 Hornet varmint question - weight

I have a cz varmint in 17 Hornet with very nice wood and like all cz’s is a shooter. I am thinking I should have went with the American. I have the American in 22 Hornet and love it. Here in Ohio most hunting is walking and the ranges aren’t that far. No bench rest shooting prairie dogs although that is on my bucket list. My question is if I cut my barrel down to 20” any idea on how much weight it would save. I love this rifle just trying to figure out if I should cut this one down or sale it and get an American.

If it shoots good don't mess with it. Start messing with a piece that shoots and you can't predict the outcome.

Sounds like overall you are or would be happier with the lighter American model.
I don't believe you would save that much weight cutting off the 4 inches.
I would say sell it and buy the American, would be your best choice. Bill K

Enter the appropriate measurements for a 20" and a 24" and you can calculate the barrel weight difference.

sell and get the American or you could shorten and have it fluted but may not shoot the same. someone here may want to trade an American with you.

I think there would be plenty of demand for a CZ 527 Varmint in the 17 Hornet caliber. I would put it up for sale and not mess with cutting the barrel because if you do that and it does not shoot, selling it would be more difficult.

I love my CZ 527 Varmint in 17 Remington!

Guys, you are letting down our reputation here a Small Caliber. he needs to buy an American and keep his current rifle, that way he has two which we all know is one. Just saying.

Exactly! Don't you really NEED another gun?? If not, swap it for an American.

I agree completely. Cutting the barrel saves little for weight drops your velocity and makes the rifle look funny. Bet you could easily find a swap or sell and re-buy, the CZs are very popular.
