Default Itching for new rifle.. suggestions

Hi folks,

Appreciate you feedback and/or suggestions.

For a number of years I have been pondering varmint rifle in 243 Win, i.e. M700, M77, etc. So what are you thoughts, likes and dislikes and why?

In being up front, Coopers are out my budget. trying to keep things under 800ish. New or gently used.

22-250 has never really excited me.

Thank you in advance.

Michael.

Michel: How about something like a Cz or Tinka in 204R or 17 Remington ?
Great varmint calibers, will do very well out to 400 yrds very easy and also say under 300 yrds take out coyotes just fine.

I have s 17FB and a 223. Yes. Looking for a heavy bbl, not finding anything on the Howa website aside from their chassis rifles- eew, not my cup of tea.

What will it be used for? I use mine for long range PD in windy conditions. Will it be a bench rifle or a walking rifle?

A B-14 Bergara Ridge is a nice rifle. And not too spendy for what you get. Comes with a threaded #5 contour barrel.

IIRC, Bergara also has several other model options with heavier barrels than what the Ridge comes with.

AZSam, I have several varmint calibers with my all time favorite and the caliber I have shot the most since the late 70's is the 220 Swift.

More recently I have really been enjoying the 17 Rem and have it in both the Remington 700 BDL and the CZ527 Varmint. My BDL is fantastic but is a safe queen now. I am really enjoying the CZ and have no complaints at all with it.

Most recently I bought a Tikka T3x Superlite in 243 Win and am currently working up a load for it. I have shot 10 rounds through it using the Barnes Vor-TX factory ammo with the 80 gr TTSX bullet and it shoots 1/2 MOA with that ammo. I have to say I am very impressed with the Tikka rifles. They are very smooth and very accurate. I know the 243 Win in not as "sexy" as some of the newer calibers to hit the stage of late but it fills a gap wonderfully right between my 220 Swift and 7mm RUM.

I know the 6CM gets little love, but unless you are going to get a custom .243, the 1-10 twist might not handle what you want to shoot. If a HB is a must, the Remington 783, Savage preditor hunter and Savage SBA model 10 fit the bill. It just depends if you want pretty groups or a pretty gun.
