Default Bullet making

Sometime back I'd decided to see if I could make good .30 cal. bullets. To make a long story short, I rounded up all the gear needed, pestered Randy Robinett mercilessly for info and am finally set up to make some. I've spent the last few weeks getting the hang of core cutting, core squirting, core seating, lubes and trying to learn what sorts of changes happen when you make little tweaks on the die adjustments as well as different techniques for the different operations. I'm still pretty clueless about a lot of it..but not quite as clueless as I was a while back. So..here's my first ten 118's that came out this evening...seemed somehow fitting on Easter Sunday. They measure good and as soon as the weather straightens out, I'll see if they shoot.

Hope I pointed the right ends. -Al

I helped Ron make some bullets and do not have the patients to do that kind of work. Hope they shoot well for you.

Default Good stuff Al!

nice to see you tinkering in the bullet making gig. Did you get your dies new from niemi? they look like a 7 ogive from the picture, is that what they are? i recall some time ago when you were talking about making some.

hope all is well, good to hear from you as always.

Jim ,these are tangent 7 ogives bullets made on Larry Blackmon tool steel dies. I couldn't be happier with Larry's service or products. Initial testing has been very positive.

Take care and be well. Say "Hi" to Leo. -Al

Default Making Bullets

Ouch! Pointing up 30 cal. bullets in steel dies. Next time I see Al his right arm will look like Arnold's.

It is not bad, I helped my friend make some in Blackmon dies. I have not tried carbide though to see the diff.

for what's it worth. I think it took almost equal pressure to point up 6mm bullets in Neimi carbide dies as it does to point up .20 caliber bullets in Corbin steel dies.

The 22's, 6mm and 25's never seemed to bother me but after a thousand or so 30's in those Culver steel dies, the back of my right hand would be swollen.

Eddie, they don't seem to be too bad...so far, anyway. 'Course, nobody has ever accused me of being exceptionally smart, 'ya know? But like I tell my bride: "I may not be smart, but I can lift heavy objects."

Say "Hi" to Sara. -Al
