Default Sako Finnfire II

Anyone have experience with the new Sako Finnfire II? I'm considering one in 17 HMR but have no experience with Sako rimfires. Read that it uses the Quad action with a pinned barrel and nicer fit and finish. Thanks. Alan

I called Beretta USA and they couldn't tell me much. Asked to speak with the Sako Product Manager with Beretta.....my name and contact info was taken. It's been about to weeks and no response. I also tried Sako's Facebook page....no response.
I have a Model 85 223, it's a good rifle, but their sub-par communication has put me off a bit. It will more than likely be my one and only Sako.
I have been looking for a new rifle for my upcoming 40th birthday and doubt it will be a Sako. More than likely an Anschutz 1717 or a Cooper 57M.
It's a real shame, because Sako builds a good rifle and that Finnfire II is at a decent price point.

my Finnfire toys which I've posted before ...

custom 17 HMR built by a Gene Davis rimfire benchrest gunsmith when the HMR first came out . Lilja barrel , Stith tiger stripe maple stock, Kelbly machined rings, and Jewell 8 oz. trigger.

I loved my 17 HMR so much I decided to build it's little brother , which is my "go to" rifle for squirrel hunting

custom Sako Finnfire 17 HM2 , Lilja barrel, Hall titanium rings, Jewell 12 oz. trigger . Also have a 22LR barrel which I can switch out with the HM2

the original Finnfire set many RF benchrest records as the flat bottom recvr is very stable.

I never cared for the Sako quad, and have no clue about the FF II

if it's as accurate as the original, then it will be a success

Default Finfire 17 HMR

Can the original finfire action be customized to fit the 17 HMR?

Default finnfire 17hmr

You can use it only as a singleshot, no provision for the longer Quad magazine.

As for the differences with the Finnfire II, it's basically a Quad Hunter with a pinned barrel, ala original Finnfire, the original P94S steel bolt and that's about it. The fact that it uses the longer Quad action allows the use of the bottom metal and magazine to accommodate the 17HMR or if you chose to have a 22Mag barrel made for it. I posted a pic of this in an earlier post, it's my 22Mag Quad installed in a Finnfire stock. All it took was opening up the mag well to fit the longer Quad setup and lengthening the bottom metal inlet. Put a Finnfire bolt handle on it and you have a Finnfire II. I'm using the DIP bottom metal on this one. From a finish standpoint the orginal Finnfire has a gloss finish where the Quad is matte, I'm thinking that's about it though. Can't see where fit and finish is better.

Chuck, was'nt the original finnfire heavy barrel 22 r.f a threaded barrel not pinned ?
I bought one when they first came out and it was a super accurate rifle, sold it in a moment of madness, sure i'm the only one here who has ever done that

Default threaded Finnfires

Johno, I'm not aware of any Finnfires that were threaded. I have an early P94S Varmint and your comment made me pull it out and check, it's pinned. I also have a Varmint barrel I purchased, year unknown and it's setup for a pinned action. But, you know how it is with Sako, they are an enigma when it comes to dating rifles and one off specials it seems. They never wasted anything and features that cross through model changes are common so a threaded barrel in the first runs could have happened.
