Default Range Time With 20 VarTarg & A LOT of Great Memories

Finally got around to some range time with the 20 VarTarg. **MAN I LOVE BEING RETIRED** It is a 16 inch OTT step barrel (THANKS DAN L). It goes up to a full 1.25 inch bull matte barrel wearing a Burris 6.5-20x50MM Burris MTAC in 30mm Burris Signature rings atop a MGM six hole weaver style scope base. On an easy open frame with 12 ounce trigger and sporting Tony G wide flat bottom target forend with almost matching ambi grip (Made by Dave Dolin (Thank you My Friend) from a black walnut tree Harvested by my Father when I was 12, I'm 62 NOW) I could feel Daddies presence with every trigger pull, man do I miss that man. Believe I saw Momma smiling in the background as that walnut tree was supposed to be her mantel. While Daddy never got around to building it, every time the sun peeked out from behind the clouds I could feel their love. MY FAVORITE GUN for SURE. I decided on 18 grains of H-4198 Powder and 32 Grain Hornady V-Max Bullets. No pressure signs at all. Brass was new Remington being fireformed. It was pleasant 75 degrees, but with sunset approaching it was not a long session. Shot from my recently built loading bench and of course as always using a Fuzz Rest. Hope Cayle was looking down and smiling with Momma & Daddy, I know I was. Number of shots per group was 5 and range was 30 to 60 yards. Hope to stretch it out soon. What a Beautiful day, just Me my Contender and a LOT of Great Memories
Thanks for reading and have a GREAT weekend
Doug

Congratulations on your retirement, looks like you are spending it the right way! That is a sharp gun and it shoots like a 20VT. I shoot the same load in one of mine but use the Sierra 32 BK. They sure are fun to shoot.

Rest was made be Cayle Davis "XP Fuzz" on Specialty Pistol Forum. Unfortunately Cayle passed away about a year or so ago. You can still occasionally find a used one for sale on SP. Probably members her on Saubier who also have them. He also made a steel version. Both are solid as a rock and adjust the same. I love Mine.
Safe shooting

Default absolutely beautiful (yes i'm a Contender guy)

tred1956;
That is a great gun, and cartridge, I have a Contender I made in 20 Vartarg ( plain jane not a thing of beauty like yours) mine is crazy accurate too, by far one of my favorite guns a lot of prairie dogs have fallen to it.
I bet that is a real treat to shoot,
Thanks for posting that.

Default 20vt

It’s one of my favorites. I have a custom Remington XR100 chambered in it and it’s a prairie dogs night mare. Also have a REM 700 custom that I use on coyotes.
I shoot H4198, 32 v max on PDs, and 35 Berger’s on coyotes.
