Fire form loads for 17 hornet
I am looking for a good fire form load for Privi brass that I recently formed from 22 hornet . Anyone have a load they use to fire form that also works as a good accurate hunting load ?
Also , I’ve read something about trimming brass to 1.355 for initial fire form? What length do you trim to before and after fire form? |

Just use the start load for the powder and bullet you have or are going to use.

My fireforming loads were plenty accurate enough for hunting, and at least with PRVI brass you won't be on your hands and knees looking for that lost RWS case! Case trim length to 1.355" MAXIMUM is vitally important for initial fireforming so the danger of excessive length and subsequent pressure spikes are reduced. SAAMI 17 Hornet nominal chamber length is 1.3565" +0.015"/-0.000" meaning a maximum chamber length of 1.3715" SAAMI 17 Hornet nominal case length is 1.3500" +0.00"/-0.020" meaning a minimum case length of 1.3300" https://saami.org/technical-informat...mber-drawings/ Reforming from 22 Hornet and trimming to 1.355" for fireforming is 0.005" over SAAMI maximum case length but still 0.0015" under nominal SAAMI chamber length and 0.0165" under SAAMI maximum chamber length. After fireforming trim length should be between 1.3300" and 1.3500" Last edited by Tilleyman; 05-11-2022 at 04:19 AM. |
