Default Howa mini action

Has anyone laid their paws on a Howa Mini action yet?

I saw an advertisement for those a couple months ago, I think. I was thinking I'd love to have one - but I just can't stand extended mags on a rifle (ar-15's excluded). Soon as someone figures out to have a flush mag, I'll be looking.

Haven't seen one. From what I'm reading it is a "very short" action of standard diameter, however one wishes to define that. Sako A1, 527, ULA 20, and Coopers are "mini" to my mind because they are of smaller outer diameter, have a smaller barrel shank and bolt diameter. All adding up to real weight saving and handiness.

I have nothing against Howa's and have owned a couple 1500 Varmints in 204 and 223. When those models came out there were no aftermarket stocks or triggers. That crappy trigger was linked to the safety and sear so it couldn't be adjusted without dropping the sear. Bolt is probably one of the thickest out there so....special bore guide needed. Now it seems 1500 owners are seeing aftermarket stocks through Boyds and others. I applaud the mini bolt design, hate the plastic appendage hanging below it and don't really see value in a plastic stock which I would be on the hunt to replace immediately. I'm assuming this is aimed at the market that doesn't have a problem with everything I just mentioned. I suppose they can't address the plastic issue without drastically raising the price.

Wonder if it can be removed like the standard 1500's. and a floor plate, box magazine used instead. The standard 1500 have that and the magazine conversion is a option. Bill K
