Cleaning Cooper breech face/bolt races
Has anyone figured out how to clean this area? I am unable to get a Sinclair (with a Sako adaptor) tool with a trimmed rectangular felt through the bolt housing. I know I am not using the proper terminology for this section of the action.
Would appreciate learning how you do it. Chuck |

Hi Charles, you are talking about the locking lug recess at the front of the action, right? Can't help with "how to" on a Cooper, but I'm sure somebody here knows how to do it.

I bought one of these Midway kits years ago.
http://www.midwayusa.com/product/109...aning-tool-kit The bolt lug recess tool is size for a Rem type action but for my Sako L461s I trim the gauze rope with a scissors and it works pretty good. You could grind down the head of the holder a little to make it better. You can buy 100 packs of the swabs for $6 and make your own holder if you wanted to. |

Ironic. I just saw this on Accurate Shooter. Might be something to study.

I use.....
......a short piece of a cotton swab, held with a pair of forceps(sp?)at any angle I choose. Squirt some lighter fluid on the swab.

Would you let me know what design you come up with? The currently availabe Sinclair system is unworkable with the small Cooper bolt size bore.
I appreciate the responses from others, but they be unaware of small the bore is in a Cooper. Thanks, Chuck |

I did originally grind/trim the bolt lug tool slightly (its nylon plastic) when I first got the tool. At $6 a pop when I bought it I didn't see where I could go too wrong if I messed it up so I took 5 minutes of my life to find out. I still use it on all of my rifles including big bores. I bought two of the kits at the time "just in case" not knowing much about the tool and I gave the other one to my youngest son years ago. No experience with the Sinclair. YMMV................. -BCB
