The Browning 1885 is their rendition of the Low Wall. I had an octagon B-78 in '06 that I hunted with for years. Sweet shooter, not sure why I let it go, but regret it now. Now other than my Ruger No.1V in .223, my other falling block is a 1885 Low Wall Octagon in 22 K-Hornet. It's become one of my favorite walkabout rat rifles for all the reasons we love Hornets. It shoots very well too, and will stay with me. Funny how interest peaks and fades on these rifles, and affects prices accordingly.

I was gifted one in a friend's will. It started life as a 7mm mag and was rechambered to 7 STW along the way. It's a laser beam with the long barrel to burn all the powder that case can hold. I don't shoot it often, but take it out hunting once in a while just to keep Tom's memory alive.

RIO, Browning made the M1885 in High Walls also. I have one of their BPCR M1885.

Yes, the B-78 was only a High Wall. The 1885 was made in High Wall and Low Wall and in more chamberings. The High Walls are more common. There was also a second generation B-78 that was essentially an 1885 with monte carlo stock to add to the confusion.
There are differences in the mechanisms; mainly the triggers. Jerry |

All the new "Winchester" single shots, my replica M92 in 44 Mag were all made by Miruko in Japan. The finish and workmanship exceeds what was made previously here in the U.S. by most standards.
My Winchester M92 on the tailgate recently. Not sure, but the B78, 1885 Low Wall were all produced by Miruko. Ironic that these very fine firearms are produced in a country that denies their citizens the privilege of owning them.

So true Rick. And most all of those firearms are well made and do shoot very fine and are great to enjoy and shoot. That one in 44 mag, should be a sweetheart. |

I have had a Browning B92 in 357 Magnum for almost 30 years. It is made by Miruko. It is a reproduction of the Winchester M1892. Very good fit and finish and fun to shoot. They made them in 44 Magnum also.
