20-222 Barrel Twist?
Getting ready to order a 20 cal. barrel for a 20-222 build. What barrel twist would be best for shooting the BIB 40gr. bullet at 20-222 velocities? I am thinking an 11 twist but have no experience with this round.

I just recently had a 20-222 built on a Rem 700 action and used a 26in Hart #4 contour 11 twist barrel. First load work up was with 40gr Bergers and H322, it shoots those into tiny little groups.

20-222 Barrel twist ?
1/11 is the favorite twist for the twenty calibers, unless you are going to try and shoot over 50 grain, then go with a 1/9. Bill K

A vote for an 11 twist in 3 groove.

Thank you for the help. I'll get an 11 twist on order.

11 I think is best to shoot the majority of bullet weights. O have 1-12 does great with 32-34gr but not as good with the 40s. I don't need 40s so it works for me, but minds change and flexibility is never bad

20-222 Barrel twist ?
If you have not tried the 39 grain BK's, you might be surprised how well they work. Many 20's do not shoot the 40 gr but do love the 39, why the difference with only one grain, is unclear. Just a thought. Bill K

To do all over, the 39gr BK's would have been the bullet I worked up a load for first. I went with the 40gr Bergers first and though they shoot extremely well, dam, are they a seating depth sensitive little SOB.

Even though I shoot two 20Ps in 11, my vote is for a 10 twist. I have an AR in the same cartridge, 10 twist Hart that shoots 1/4 moa with 40 gr BIBs at 200 meters and is more accurate than the other two with the 11 twists. If I had to do the other two, a Lilja and a Muller, all over again, I'd go with a 10 twist.
