A 204 Ruger may be easier, have better performance and be cheaper. And you can always load it down to 20-222 performance levels. Larry

Getting 204 brass is an issue over here in Australia no worries with 222

Hi jack,
You didn't say how far you were looking to go out to.
And what game you are looking to use it on.
To my mind, here in Aus, any of the 20 cals will be fine for small animals out to 250-300 m.
Just depending what floats your boat.
I started with the 204, then went down to the 20 prac and finally had it re barrelled to the 20 vartarg. Couldn't be happier with the vartarg for the majority of my shooting needs. Mind you, I had a 20/250 built for the longer ranges. It doesn't get used much, but when I need it, it performs to my expectations.

Jordan, it's just a matte blue finish, it's one of 2 carry guns I use and both are Sakos. The donor was the typical polished blue, barrel is a MRC CM 1-11" #3.

Lake City 223/5.56 brass is a 20 VT's best friend.

Jack, I use any 222/223 brass available.
I have made them out of Norma, Remington and lapua.
Haven't been able to get 221 brass, which apparently all you need to do is run it through the 20 vt fls die and away you go.
Has been a bit of a chore to make my brass, but usually in aus, we don't fire a bucket full off at a time ( not like our American cousins) and they seem to last for quite a few firings, so once you've made up a few, you probably won't need to do any more for some time, unless you keep loosing them.
I live close to Ballarat, so we might be able to catch up and have a bfc one day.
I do hope you have a permit for those skippys.
Anyway, in respect to what you originally posted, I believe the 20 vt would be suitable. Equally, you could also use the 20/222, 20/223 (prac/tac versions) or go with the 204. At the end of the day, it's your choice.
I went with the vartarg as I wanted something to fill in between the 17hmr and the 20/250. Minimal muzzle jump with good accuracy and has enough in it to hit small targets out to 250m, which the vt does. Also not to heavy to lug around all day, if need be. Pm me if you want any more info.
