Usually I throw the Zombie thread picture up here.
But no, I agree, the 204R case is a great one for exotic calibers. I know the 6mm version and 224 version are killing it. With a slightly larger capacity than the BR and the 223 BF it makes it a great venture. I know I would love to do a 6.5 on one, it would have almost the same horsepower as the SPC and more than the PPC, with cheaper brass. Adam |

204 wildcat
Hi Dan,
I know there are others out there who have been using the 20/250 and even the 20/250 AI for some time. I have been using the plain 22/250 for some time now and in my experience I have been very happy with it. I have a supply of the 50g and 55g Bergers which will more than likely see out the life of this barrel but wouldn't hesitate to do another when the time comes. Admittedly, the choice of the heavier projectiles for the 20 cal are limited, especially in Aus, so it might depend on availability of projectiles when that time comes, but as I only use it during our fox season/winter months it will probably see me out. I do hope the major bullet makers start making heavier projectiles down the track. I know there are other smaller makers in the USA, but with the import problems these days, are difficult to get over to us. Hope that changes down the track, but I won't be holding my breath. |

The 6 x 47 has been around for a long time - necked up 222 mag. This is what the 204 ruger came from. The 6 x 45 from a 223. In the Contender they had the 6 TCU a very similar cartridge.

The .204 Ruger's Maximum working pressure on the SAAMI scale is listed as 58,000PSI and 59,000PSI CIP. The .223 is listed as 55,000psi SAAMI and 62,000PSI-CIP(Euro). Seems to me, the .243's normal pressure with factory ammo is 60,000psi. Another round on that case, is the .260 Rem with a SAMMI pressure limit of 60,000psi., while the parent, .308 is listed as 62,000psi. Perhaps you are you talking CUP,not PSI?

Adam,
What would you change the 204 case dimensions too, when going to the 6.5mm bullet? That cal and the 20cal does NOT light my fire, for some reason. Tia, Don Quote:

So, if someone rally wants wildcat screamers based on the 222/223 bolt face, try starting with the 5.6x50 Magnum case. Well, if you can overcome the high cost of RWS brass.
I'm currently reforming some of these to produce a few quality 222 Mag. AI cases ---- it kills me though to trim off all that extra case length! |

A link to some 2009 info on benchrest.com ref the 6mm-204. Particularly note posts by stevec. Ruger apparently looked at the 6mm-204 in 2004 as the reamer stevec used was from a 2004 PTG print done for Ruger. I shoot a 1 in 8" twist 22-204. Nice cartridge with the notable exception that my brass life is at best approx 1/2 of that obtained with Lapua 223 brass. I believe I would opt for a 223AI in 22 cal and a 6TCU in 6mm.

I'd run at least .125"fb, not to sure about nk diameter though. I would guess it would be best suited for the lighter 6.5mm bullets although the heavies might surprise me. Neck up, load, and shoot. Adam |
