Start a grain low and work up to max .2 grain at a time and see what it likes. If you start low and work up, you will never run into an over psi issue.

Thanks to all for your time and information. B23 your post on 12.4 grains of CFE matches what mine likes the best so far in my limited testing. I seat the 20 grain Vmax at 1.715" with 12.4 grains and it's around .60 inch at 100 yards. I shot 3 rounds at 1.725" with the same charge and they opened up to just over 1 inch. I'm neck sizing only with the Redding neck sizing die. I just loaded up 3 more to shoot them tomorrow as the winds are supposed to be low. Also trying 10.9 grains of IMR-4198. That's down 2 tenths from the load that shot like crap. Those long grains really fill up a case.

Follow up.. shot 3 more at 12.4 of CFE BLK at 100 yards. Came in at about .442" center to center. I think I have my summer 20 grain Vmax load for groundhogs. No need to fiddle around any more. Set to factory COL of 1.715' give or take a couple of thousandths. Thanks all. Let the carnage begin.

Happy hunting!

I should be shooting groundhogs right now, but it is raining in central Washington through tomorrow.
