Default Sako L461 17 Rem

Was at a Cabelas in Thornton, CO browsing through the inventory. Saw this used Sako L461 on this forum. Too much for me but I was surprised to see one.

It has a stainless steel HB. Sorry, I didn't get a picture of the whole rifle.

Assuming that the barrel is in good condition, that is really not a bad price.

Default Saw a 41 mag at Cabelas in Lone Tree

I went back a couple times. It shoots very well and it is a very stout Redhawk.
Glad I got it.The point here is you never are sorry about the guns you buy, only the ones you don’t or the ones you sell
If that .17 was only shot at coyotes or ‘chucks no worries, however if it was ever taken to dogtown you may want to factor in the price of a barrel

Ah, but adding a new barrel, if and when needed, is just part of our sport and just comes naturally.

Default 17 rem

I’ve been shooting a Rem 700 custom in 17 Rem for a number of years, at PDs. I don’t over heat the barrel and it’s still a half inch gun. I clean it after I get home, about 100-150 shots fired. In my experience all the talk about the 17 Rem burning up barrels and fouling barrels is bs.

I haven't seen fouling to any degree, but the barrels can be burned out on mine in short order. Mine is an Ultra Wildcat and has a very light CM barrel on it. It is one gun the youngsters don't get free rein with.

Remember folks, any barrel can be burnt out in short order, by overheating it while shooting too many shots, too fast and furious.
That can be on any caliber, not just the 17's. So just use some common sense in how often you run round down those bores, and any session of shooting.

We can get into chuck action that almost rivals prairie dog shooting, but I appreciate what you are saying.

The receiver was blue, the barrel stainless and looked new. I can't see well anymore (old eyes) and a 17 cal would be too hard for me to see w/o a bore scope, then I don't have access to a bore scope that can go in a 17 cal.

First impression is that it probably is a good price for it, or someone who would like it for a different or wildcat. :-)

With used CZ 527's going for 1500 - 1500+ even though a grand sounds like a lot maybe that's not a bad price if it's a clean Sako L461.
