When I got my Volquartsen 17 HMR, they send a Bore-Snake with it and said NEVER clean with anything else...

I think patch fit has a lot to do with the jag. I use a Dewey and a Tipton CF (I don't recommend them, but i use one to push patches). I use 1 inch patches, speared off center, and they fit the same way that 1 inch patches with the 20 Dewey rod and a different (bigger) jag does in my 20's. I don't keep different sized patches for the two calibers. If I need a loose patch for wipe out or something I keep a pair of shears in my cleaning box to cut a corner off.
