20-222 with 40gr. bullet
I have been searching the site but most everything is for a 32gr. bullet. Does anyone have a good starting load for a 40 gr. bullet. I will be using 40gr. BIBs and have several powders to try. Thanks in advance

I use H322 with 40gr Berger's in my 20-222 (Lapua brass)
I'll have to double check to be positive but if I recall I'm using 22.5gr H322 and it stacks them up into tiny little groups. |

I've used IMR 8208 and H4198 with 40 gr Berger in my 20 Extreme. Going to try Varget as well. I'm told it works quite good. Also used H4198 with 40 grain Remingtons

What is a part/product number on that 40 grain Remington bullet you either reloaded or had in a box of factory loads? |

Not sure. Remington Accutip - V bullets for reloading. Try RBA2042 that's printed on the box. On the back with the bar code label is 24181 KT, it could be 31 at the end. Hard to tell

[QUOTE=Grey_Wolf;Not sure. Remington Accutip -
I have used the AccuTip Remington's in their loaded ammo in the 221FB and they worked well. Might try some of the 204 R AccuTip's, but very limited with me now that I have to use lead free for hunting all animals. Would like to see of the 20 cal bullets, not loaded, and give them a test in a couple of my 20 caliber rifles. But again, for hunting now, must only use lead free and the Nosler and Hornady lead free bullets are working as well and in some cases better than the lead one's did anyway. Bill K |

Bill K [/QUOTE] That sucks, we don't have those lead free rules ..... for now. They shoot pretty good in my 20 Extreme. I used them in a short barrel (18", minimum allowed here) with H4198 and they were moa to 400. That's as far as I got both with load development and distance. A buddy of mine liked the gun so much he bought it from me. |
