Default 4007SSC....Questions and Discussion

I've been running 4007 in my 20-250 since I got it last year.

It's chrono'ed over and over again at 3595 and maintains very consistent velocity with the current load I'm using.

I've tried it in numerous different temps and it stayed right there, even last year down to -12F.

I shot a few coyotes with it the last few days, using the 55 Bergers. I've been noticing not much of an exit hole on the fur. Very small, dime sized exits, last year on a few broadside shots it left bigger holes. Not that I'm complaining about the smaller holes but something didn't add up.

I switched lots of bullets and thought maybe it was different lot of bullets performing different, however I ran it over the chrony today and it was only running 3325fps.

I can't quite put my finger on this. It was cold today but that didn't seem to do anything last winter. My dad runs the same powder, and same lot in his 22-6mm and his was only 10fps slower than it was at 45F.

Did my barrel give up? Total rounds through this thing (had it as a 20BR) between the two chamberings is somewhere around 700 +/- 50 rounds.

It shot very well with R17 today and velocity was back at 3605 on the chrony.

Thoughts???

YEah I'm pretty sure I'll be switching to the R17 I'm just confused as to what happened with the velocity.

As a barrel wears it typically slows down. Usually about 3/4 life. Did this in my last 3 6x47L barrels. I add powder to keep velocity up but sometimes it gets to the point where I redo the load at a lower node.

Do you think it would have lost it that quickly though? It happened within 20 rounds or so.

Are you sure your measure did not drop some light loads or how much temp drop did you have. From warm to real cold ? Just some rambling thoughts Bill K

Have you done a reality check on the scales? Weigh the powder that is in an older loaded round? Larry

I have not checked a loaded case.

I'll need to do that, I very well could have screwed up!

The temp difference was from 50 to -10

I did the same test last year and it was only a few fps difference, so I don't thi k it's the cold but I'm puzzled at this point.
