The new 22 cal 53g varmageddon, opinions
Anybody used the new high BC 22 cal 53g Varmageddon flat base yet?
I do like me some cheap varmint bullets that work well, the 6mm 70g VG works very well in the 6TCU and can be found under 10 cents per. Never could get the 6mm 55g VG to shoot as well as the other 55's or the 58g vmax/zmax. |

I tried them in my 8 twist .22 250. I had them shooting 1/2 moa at 100 then 3 inch groups at 200. Haven't had time to play with seating depth to figure out what's wrong but that's my experience so far.

Just shot a .489 five shot group this morning with the 53 gr blems from Shooters Pro Shop. The rifle is a Rem 700 Varmint built in the 80's and still stock except for trigger work with approximately 5000 rounds down the barrel. It is my new favorite 22 bullet. I have consistent small groups with this bullet.

SPS has some good deals if you keep an eye on them, where I got the 6mm 70g VG's (overrun) for 10 cents per.

Same with Midsouth -- I got some blemished 65gr HP bullets in 6mm a couple of years ago that shoot incredibly well, and various other blems have worked great too. More recently they offered blemished Hornady bullets and I bought a bunch of 30 caliber stuff, but haven't had a chance to try any of them yet. Whatever makes them blemished is undetectable to me. For anything other than perhaps match shooting, I think these are the ticket, if and when you can find them.
GrocMax, I'm assuming that when you're using the term "VG," you're referring to Varmageddon, not Varmint Grenade, right? |
