Starting load for 40 gr Vmax on 20 Vartarg
For my Remington and Cooper, I have a great load for each rifle in the 32 gr Vmax. Now I'm looking for a load for the 40 gr Vmax for windier days. I'm using an 11 twist Pac-Nor barrel and want to use either RL7 or H4198 powder. I prefer RL7 since I don't have to use a drop tube and it is more consistent throwing than the H4198.
I know this site has lots of information, but after reading for a couple of days my mind is a little rumdum. Thanks |

Jim,
I know u said u prefer to use RL7 or 4198, however I suggest that u try CFE BLK with 40's. It's been my go to powder, meters well through a Dillion although it's very fine. You can view my OCW target in my photo album. If u choose to try it I suggest u start lower than the 17.8 on my target as your pressure may vary.

AA2200 is my preferred powder for those loads.

I'm using RL-7, REM 71/2, and 40gr B-Tips with great success in my 20 VT.

Seems no one want to answer your reloader 7 question. I use 15 grains as a start load and work up from there. You should hit a good node just over 16 and another just over 17.6, if your rifle will let you go that high.
