Default Tikka 22 250 1@8 twist for coyotes deer and pigs.

I came across one online for for a ruger 22 250 1@8. I think I will go with a tikka. I was looking to use a Berger 70 or 75gr VLD. But the only Berger 70 or 75 gr are target bullets. I do have a bunch of 65gr gameking. Has anyone on here shot the 2 rifles with the 1@8 twist.

I have not, however my hunting buddy has 7 twist and shoots the 65 sgk for deer with great success. I shoot the 65's in a 223AI 8 twist and it is as good but shorter range. Both guns are on Savage actions. I think you will be very happy.

I have not shot the 1/8 twist, but my old 22-250 with a 1/12 has taken a bunch of deer with the old 60 grain Nosler partition, over the years.

Default 65 gr GameKing

I can't address your rifle issues, but I have used the 65gr GameKing to take over a dozen deer - both mulies and whitetail. I think that Sierra claims it is a GameKing for .22 caliber size game, and not recommended for deer. With one exception, I restricted myself to head shots only and maximum 150 yards. My rifle grouped 5 shots at 0.5" repeatedly, and I always shot from a rest. Nothing ever walked away from it.

My only exception was shooting back-up on a big buck on a bluff that dropped straight into the Missouri river, about 150 feet down. The original shot was good, and my back-up wasn't needed, but the bullet broke a rib going in, through the lungs and broke another rib going out, coming to rest just under the hide at a range of ~250 yards. Bullet was badly deformed but largely intact.

I get bughole accuracy out of 1/8 twist 223 with 80 gr. SMK bullets pushed with TAC. From a stability perspective, your 1/8 twist 22-250 should easily handle the 70 gr. Nosler Accubond bullet.

I have a 1-8" Tikka in 22-250 and it shoots the 62 to 75 grain bullets very well. The longer/heavier bullets give up some velocity and trajectory in the 22-250 case for hunting purposes, but at normal hunting granges you should be able to find a good bullet for your needs.

If you snoop around and search the topic at 24 HC, you should be able to find quite a bit of information on the 1-8" twist 22-250 Tikka rifles and loads.
