Default Ruger 77/ 22Hornet etc, trigger.

I have a Ruger 77/357, and from I understand it is the same as the 77/22 Hornet, etc., other than the chambering. At the time I bought it 3-4 years ago, using 5-7grs of what ever pistol powder could be had and cast bullets, it was half the cost of to shoot as a 22LR. But more importantly I had something to plink with when 22lr was in short supply/not available, with seemingly no end in sight. Plus my wife really liked shooting it.

In attempting to improve the trigger I put in a Timney sear and spring. The pull is lighter, but it, well, it seems... mushy.. when fired. Just does not have a nice crisp reasonably quick lock time, To me there is short but noticeable delay from when the trigger is pulled and when the cartridge fires akin to a flint lock. All the workings in the bolt are clean, no sludge, caked on oil, goo, etc. Not sure if it may be my imagination, or that is just the nature of that particular rifle/action.

I have a hunch that it could be the firing pin/mainspring. Might be something else all together different for that matter. Those of you who have more experience with it, what are your thoughts, experience, and suggestions.

Appreciate the input.

All the best,

Michael

AzSam, Take a look on Brownell's site. They sell a adjustable SPEC-TECH trigger for the Ruger 77/22 Hornet (less than a $100). I put one in a 77/22 Hornet that I re-barreled into a 20 Mink. Has worked out well for a Jack rifle. 410gauge

I've been installing the Wolff 23# striker springs paired with a jard 1/1.5# triggers. That combo seems to work really well on my hornets and rimfires..

It could be the light loads. Timing is an issue, holding the rifle vertically and then as I pull the trigger slinging the rifle downward, and hopefully as it reaches a horizontal position the crosshairs are aligned with the target when the bullet exits the muzzzle.

I will look into Brownell's and the springs.
Many thanks.
