Whatever happened to Simmons?
I guess that Simmons still exists. I checked their website (they have one). I really don't hear much or see Simmons scopes sold new or used. They still seem to make scopes. They were a new upstart in maybe the 90s. They made some decent lower end scopes. I recently received a 3-9x32 22 Mag Simmons scope on a used Ruger 10/22 T that I bought. Wow, that thing is really crappy looking/feeling. I don't remember them making junk like this in their early days. What happened?

I video recorded all of my Highpower Rifle matches. Pretty soon I am going to watch them all in reverse order so that I can watch those F Class guys GO HOME and leave us alone so that we can shoot Highpower Rifle. |

Simmons Optics
If i remember correctly it was around 1983 - 1984. Put a 6 x ? on a Ruger 1 B for my first PD trip. Paralax was terrible. Think they was located in Florida.

Some of their more expensive scopes like the 44 Mag were a decent value and performance. The 22 Mag was terrrible. They also made a 6-18 Air Rifle specific model that worked great on a 22lr. I wonder if they got bought out by another brand and only have a limited marketing for the Simmons name.

A buddy ran a Simmons 44 Mag on a 257 Weatherby with no issues. I've got one in the scope drawer in case I need a spare........

Simmons 44 mag 4-12x44 was my first really expensive scope. Took a lot of pennies saved up over a summer of working to make that happen. $200 was a lot of money in those days. Should of bought a 3-9x40 leupold.

The "Aetic" line was quite good.

I have one, but I think they have a lot of barreling distortion (convex distortion) compared to my other scopes. Other than that, they are fine.

My uncle had one on a 25-06 while deer hunting back in the 90s. Took a shot at a deer and the crosshairs had rotated in the scope about 30* clockwise! He missed the deer and that was the end of that until we got back to camp and changed it out for a backup gun. I had a 3x9-40 that I gave to one of my kids. It’s on a 10-22 and seems to be ok for yeoman’s duty in that application.
