I have one coming the end of the week for a 22 Marlin 39A I picked up. Special Black Friday deal scope with rings shipped 50% off. I'll see what I got. Hope it's a decent little scope for a 22 rim fire.

I have several Simmons ATEC scopes on rifles and consider them a value priced item. If I was going on a high dollar hunt, I would choose another manufacturer. If I was plinking or varmint hunting with back-up rifles, I think they would be a reasonable choice.

I have two Simmons gold medal hand gun scopes. Both are 2 1/2 to 7. One has been mounted on a contender in 7-30 waters and the other on a 22hornet barrel. The recoil on the 7-30 is rather brisk. I have had no issue with either.
I also have a gold medal silhouette 6 1/2 to 20 on a contender carbine in 17 AH. Other than the dot being too big I have no issue with it. I have had other Simmons scopes that were of poor quality but the gold medal series seems to be a step up in quality. I have read that the gold medal models were made to compete with higher end scope manufactures but did not fair well due to the Simmons reputation.

We’re these scopes not made in Taiwan or the Philippines at some time?

I bought a 22 Hornet 7 or 8 years back, that had a Simmons 3x9 44 mag scope on it. It came off the rifle after the first range session. I couldn’t get the reticle in focus no matter how much I turned the focus knob. I had a Weaver T36 on the heavy barreled Ruger during load development, and rifle tuning. It has a Bushnell Elite 2x10 on it for hunting. Someone mentioned Vista Outdoor as the owner of Simmons earlier in this thread. They own Weaver and Bushnell also.

To the OP's question "what happened to Simmons?"
With Vista Outdoors purchasing scope companies like Weaver, Bushnell, Simmons, Tasco, there was a lot of overlap in product line. They have discontinued some brands and cut down on product offerings in other lines. Also they don't market/promote some of the brands at all.

I'm glad that there are other far better options too.
