17 Rem 700 LVSF rebarrel ???
Thinking about rebarreling, but sticking with 17 Rem. It currently sits in a bedded McMillan Rem Classic with Mag contour inletting. The barrel is only 22" and I want to go up to 24".
Would the barrel diameter be too too "big" if I stuck with a LVSF contour barrel at 24"? I'm talking more for aesthetics and weight/balance. How about thoughts on shank length? Going Lilja!!! Any thoughts? It's mostly a coyote gun with some crow/chuck hunting mixed in. Last edited by Dooger; 05-18-2017 at 03:12 AM. |

rebarrel question
I can not answer your questions about barrel diameter, but I sure agree with your choice of barrel manufacturers and going to 24".
I have a custom sako A1 with a 24" lilja and it shoots lights out. |

I have a rem 700 with varmit contour 25" barrel and hs precision stock and with the scope mounted the gun weighs a touch over nine pounds. Not bad at all to pack around with gun sling.

An extra inch or so on the shank can buy you another 1000 rounds or more with a setback in the future. Probably only makes sense if you are doing your own chambering work. What's an average barrel life of a 17 Rem before the throat gets torn up?

Thanks so far
G, can't really give you a round count on this one but it's pretty low. Chalking it up to a long throat and a crap barrel. I've read of custom barrels going a few thousand rounds though in 17 Rem. |
