I wish they would go the other way and make some 75-80 gr game bullets in 6.5. Besides that my barrel is 1:8 twist so no go on these new bullets for target even.

Well that is their opinion. Has not the 140 grain bullet in 6.5 mm's killed and taken many head of game, especially in Europe and the Scandinavian areas, over all these years ? Bill K

I use 140 gr in my 260 ai and 6.5x50 jap. Love the bullet for wind deflection and velocity retention, high bc. But I use the Hornady interlock sst. It's designed for big game hunting. To me in the cases I use getting below 120-140 in the 6.5 looses the long for caliber wind bucking abilities that made the 6.5 mm what it is today. Brain shots on elephants we're common with a 6.5x54 in Africa, can't remember the guy that used it alot. It penetrates deep with the right bullet.
But I can see some Grendel guys wanting a decent deer bullet in the lower grain area

I especially like the Sierra 6.5-.264 caliber 140 grain SBT for hunting purposes. They work great in a couple of 264 Win Mag rifles that I own and hunt with (a Sako L691 and a Win Model 70 CRF) as well as a custom built 6.5/284 and a 6.5x55 Swede (Ruger #1). The folks at Sierra generally know what they are saying and doing, and I know that I have no plans to use these for hunting....... YMMV. -BCB

Options are good, we'll see what the long range folks think about them, wouldn't expect too much on game for them.

They are not meant for big game hunting at ANY range. It is a target bullet.

I have a 1:8 so likely a nogo unless with my 28" tube and RE26 I can get enough velocity to spin them up. may try them for poops and grins.
I think sierra just puts that as a disclaimer for hunting. hornady did the same with their amax line and they did surprisingly well on game. now all target bullets aren't created equal. I dug up some nosler RDF's from a muddy backstop and they didn't deform or expand for nothing. compared to my 168 Amax's I was shooting which did very well. I know a lot of people swear by the 155 lapua scenar and 215gr berger hybrid for game hunting which are also a "target" bullets Last edited by squirrel_slayer; 10-18-2017 at 06:50 PM. |
