Browning B-78
Not long ago you used to see a decent amount of Browning B-78 on Gunbroker. Now, there's nearly nothing. What is going on?

Marlin levers, B78, even Ruger 1s and BLRs are in real short supply so the used market is drying up too. Marlin 45-70 is selling for as much as 2500 up here and they aren't even JMs.

Why is that, though? They aren't "plastic fantastic" which is so popular these days.

Try to find a Ruger #1 under $1500. Its insane. I used to see them for 1/2 that quite frequently. ML

Those in the know, are buying them and of course the prices went up, when sellers found out some would pay the higher prices to get one of them.

Look at prices for Colt and S&W revolvers. Incredible. Also, a decent WWI era 30 caliber battle rifle has tripled...

Had this one in 243. Guy I saw at the range fell in love with it, paid me WAY too much money for it. Sold it and bought one in 7 mag that went down the road eventually too. They are a great shooting rifle right out of the box. I have always had better results with them than with the Ruger 1, in terms of all the Rugers I have owned needed from some to a lot of tuning to get them to shoot well.

I was at a gun show when a buddy of mine bought a B-78 in .45-70. He got a good deal on because it needed a spring somewhere. He fixed it for $1. I was so jealous of that beautiful rifle & I started looking for one for myself. I want a higher velocity cartridge though. Just last year I found what I wanted. It is a Browning 1885 in .270 Win. Not sure what the difference is from a B-78 but it looks like a classic HW(?). It is a beautiful rife & shoots great!
