Default Been gone awhile

A lot of trauma these past 10 yrs so been away. Sold 57 small caliber guns, 30,000 raw bullets and 107 pounds of powder plus all my reloading equipment. Soooo, I want a 17 Hornet again but will not be reloading.
Question:
1. Which gun? Looks like the CZ is about all that is offered.
2. Is factory ammo accurate---I know not like my old Cooper but how good is it?
3. Do you guys/gals believe it will be around in factory ammo for long?

Thanks in advance and always know where to turn for straight answers.
Blessing

Welcome back!!!
I think the 17 Hornady Hornet ammo will be around for awhile, as it is currently being manufactured by Hornady, Federal and Winchester.

The rifle selection is a bit more problematic as CZ has discontinued the 527 and the Ruger 77/22 might be in the same boat. For a regular production rifle, I'd be looking for a CZ527 American with a sporter weight 22" barrel. If you want a 24" varmint weight barrel, those were offered by both CZ and Ruger. While the Ruger accuracy woes are well noted, in general their 17 Hornet rifles break with that unwanted tradition. Personally I prefer the magazine design of the Ruger, but would sacrifice that for accuracy any day.

Brooks, hope all is going well with you and the wife and you make a visit back into my area again.
17 Hornets in repeaters seem to be hard to find, with some stopping production of their past models. Might check some gun shops for used ones or some member in a few sites/forums might have one for sale.

Another option in a TC contender and a barrel in 17 hornet from some that are still on the market.

Stay well and safe.

Anschutz has the 1771 in several models of .17 hornet, sure like mine, nicer balance, fit and finish, than the two CZ .17 hornets I had.
No problem to get a finger nail 5 shot group at 100 with federal 20gr .17 hornet ammo, or the 25 gr v-max.
pedersolie has a sharps single shot, in both .17 and .22 hornet.

Default Welcome back

The lack of good rifles in 17H is frustrating. I can attest to the poor accuracy of the Ruger 77/17H, even after trigger work, bolt shims, and glass bedding. I’ve heard good reports on the CZ. Good luck on your search. I’m out of the 17H game for now. And unless someone starts making a quality/accurate one, I’m done with it. I did sell a Cooper 17AH few years ago, a mistake.

Good to see you back on the board.

Must have been serious for you to sell that many guns.
Hope you got a decent price for them.

I think the problem you'll have is finding ammo.
Last I've seen or heard the shelves are still bare.

best wishes, hope life has settled down for you now.

Default Glad to see you back Brooks...

I was blessed to get one of the 57.I hope you find what you are looking for,I would like a 17HH as well and hope you can find a good one.I like the sound of the Anshutz.I wish Cooper still made the model 38.Would be a no brainer for me.
This is what we call a 1st world decision

Zastava is importing their Mini Mauser under their own brand; not listing it in Hornet but refers to the chambering in the description. Says Hornet has a detachable magazine. Don't know if it's available. Pac-Nor will barrel it.
My question is the same as every B/A Hornet-is the magazine long enough?

Just an FYI, the Federal ammo comes out of the Hornady plant. I am fairly sure the WW does also. I would get a CZ or an 1885 Winchester.

Default Just curious

Are we still talking about the 17 Hornady Hornet?
If they make an 1885 I would love one,no reason they shouldn’t after all they make the 17WSM and the 17HMR.Why not make one in 17HH,just can’t find reference to it.
