Default 5.7x28 in a bolt action rifle

Do you think anyone will come out with a bolt action rifle chambered for the 5.7x28? I remember a few years ago Savage talked about, but they never made it to production. It looks like it would be a dandy small game cartridge. Too much competition already?

IF so, it would just be a low powered short range shooter.

And too much like the 17 VHA. On a Savage platform, you have to "point the round up" and into the chamber BEFORE you think about closing the bolt.
On a smaller action than the 10 or 110, you might get it to chamber without too much of a problem. With the standard Savage, IMHO, more trouble than it's worth. Spend more time trying to get the round chambered than shooting. Might just as well stay home.

Maybe Ruger since they brought out an auto pistol in this round for 2020.

I can't imagine enough demand to justify building an action that would function as a repeater.

might take a creative gunsmith but it might fit in a 22 tcm armscor rifle. not sure about the quality of the factory rifle, I have seen mixed reviews. might be just as well off to shoot the factory chambering as it probably would never feed.

from the pistol Based on published ballistic data, the .22 TCM appears superior to the FN 5.7mm in raw speed and power. Both achieve a muzzle velocity of around 2,000 fps from service pistol length barrels. But the TCM does this with a heavier 40 grain projectile as compared to the FN 5.7’s much lighter 31 grain bullet.

from the rifle the .22 TCM makes tremendous gains in velocity; in fact, it averaged 2752 f.p.s. for 10 consecutive shots. Muzzle energy was 673 ft.-lbs., and standard deviation was 23.

I've seen a few for sale here on the forum so I will let those who owned one speak about them.

The early tcm rifles suffered from very poor barrels and accuracy. later were better but still not much to write home about.

The biggest limiting factor is mag length. which limits bullet options unless single feeding. 1.275" is all you can stuff in there with a 1.025" case that limits you to bullets with a .250" tip to ogive length, which is pretty few, all of which suffer in terms of BC.

I have a Remington 580 rifle, 5.7x28mm reamer, and a set of set of dies just waiting for me to get inspired.

Johnly:
Consider yourself inspired!!

Not too sure any of the larger actions would get the job done BUT, we'll never know for sure till someone makes that move.

I got away from the 17 VHA mostly because of the chambering problems. Too much fiddling and not enough shooting.
Got hooked on the 20 TCM. MUCH BETTER factory brass from the start. Just a matter of necking down to 22 TCM case to 20, loading it up and heading to the range.
I have NO EXPECTATIONS as to how it will work BUT, I made it so that makes me the WINNER!!
Custom cut reamer, custom made dies, and a couple of barrels chambered and ready to go. Next in line is shooting time.
I did loan the reamer out to one of the guys that cut a couple of chambers.
I "guess" he was/is happy with his project.
I figured a nice 20 caliber VLD bullet would be better than the little stubby 22s and looked better too.
I single feed so no OAL issues or loading from a mag.
"from the rifle, the .22 TCM makes tremendous gains in velocity; in fact, it averaged 2752 f.p.s. for 10 consecutive shots".
I think I could deal with that. A little bitty bug hole maker.

Wish one of you guys with experience would
post pictures of both the 5.7 and VHA to show me
the differences. So far I've not been able to find such.

Johnly: you still making the rocket trip down here?
I have a bunch of brass if you need some. Rattle my cage.
