I don't disagree with the LilGun chrony readings, but I still get 1/2" groups at 100yds from a Bedded Savage 40 and it's money at 200yds. on a grass rat. I am shooting 40 Vmax .020 off with pistol primers and Remington brass. I just don't see it causing accuracy issues out to 200, where I switch off to something else. If I had a stronger action, I might look for another powder, but the lower psi from LilGun is really easy on primers and brass, while giving me 2900fps. At 2900fps with a 100 yd zero you have 1.93 moa come up. With a 2850fps you have 2.03 moa come up shooting a 40 Vmax. I am seeing a 35fps spread. If your shooting paper at 300yds., I get it, but it just flat works for me.

I shoot 40Gr Varmageddons over Lil Gun powder ignited by Remington 6 1/2 primers in all of my 22 Hornets. My first 22 Hornet was a CZ527FS, still have it and others have joined the herd over the years. I have never seen a need to hot rod the Hornet, I have a 218 Bee and 221 Fireball for increased power and range. Long live the 22 Hornet!

For a while, my first CZ Hornet was my only CF for shooting gophers. I ran R-P brass, LG and 40gr. Varmegeddons, 40gr. BT's and 40gr. Vmaxs with 14.4gr. LG- CRIMPED with SD's in the high teens. That load ran 3,340fps with the HP's and Vmax with Ballistic Tips at 3,357fps av. Best gopher was 445yards, a big buck rat, with many in the 200 to 350yard range.
With the second one, I used WW brass with loads to 13.5gr. LG for 3,200fps and 14.0gr. LG in R-P brass for 3,250fps.
No pressure problems at all - my first brass (14.4gr. LG) went 14 firings, then I converted it to .17AH's. I am still using it, although it's likely not been fired more than 18 or 19 times all together.
The WW brass is still going strong, near 10 firings.
Lee "Factory" CRIMPING had been the reason for low SD's and GREAT accuracy from both of my CZ's.
Incidentally, the first one needed small pistol primers(Fed 150's), while the second one liked standard CCI400 or Fed 205 rifle primers.

This matches my experience also. Are all you Hornet guys shooting single shots then? The magazines I've seen only work with short stubby bullets (low BC), which is why I made the Spitwad:

In the contender I can use the long bullets, but not in the ruger...

I put a wooden block in the action of my CZ- so single shot only. I did modify a couple magazines to allow longer OAL's, but gave one to Doug and don't use the other. I don't even know where it is now. I only put the bullet into the case 1/10", and crimp using a Lee Crimp die. This increases accuracy and reduces shot to shot spreads.
When shooting rats with this rifle, I've not felt undergunned at all, by not having a magazine.
The 35g.r Vmax lost accuracy for me past 150yards - that is, shooting sub 1/2" at 100 meters and 2 1/2" at 200meters, whereas the 40gr. HP's and plastic tipped bullets were still well under 1" at 200 meters.

I have two repeaters in 22 Hornet, but usually get used as single shots because I like to use 40g VMAX and seat them longer than mag lengths. The CZ 527 does have a modified mag that is about 0.040" longer than standard, as Daryl said.

I tend to use the stubby 35 grainers in my magazine fed Anschutz's but use the 40 gr. V MAX's in my #1 and my T/C.
