Glad you have great eyes, take good care of them. I didn't and paid the price.
Smallest scope I have on anything, even my Anschutz's, is a 5x20 and most are 24x or 32x. Jim D SE Texas

My Simmons is 4-12x40 and that magnification is fine for the most part. I'd like a little more magnification, but it's not really necessary. My main gripe is the thickness of the cross hairs. On a prairie dog at 200+ the intersection covers a good chunk of the pd. I don't have to have high end glass, to tell you the truth I really can't afford high end glass. I'm thinking the $300 range with a top end magnification of 14-18. It's hard to aim small with thick cross hairs.

Scope for you
SHI.,
If you can swing $409 shipped & everything, IMO the best scope on the market without a doubt is the Sightron S-TAC MOA 5x20x50 scope. Scott from Liberty Optics will have one on your door step, direct from Sightron, for $409 total. Just got my 3rd one today and I also have 5 Sightron SIII's. You can go to Sightron and go to S-TAC MOA then click on specs and look at the reticle. It's not super fine but just a little above. The center dot on 20x is .25 and the hash marks are very detailed and not cluttered together. It has medium capped target turrets, no need out to 600 just use the hash moa marks, and the warranty is forever. If you've never dialed a Sightron, it's awesome. The only other scopes that will track like Sightron's will cost you 2-4 thousand dollars. The S-TAC MOA is made in the Philippines where the SIII's are Japan, reason for the cost difference. For the bucks, no other scope is even close, none. Jim D--- SE Texas

I can confirm the good things Swift220 has said about the STAC 4-20x w/moa, that's what sits on my custom 6.5 Creedmoor, tracks perfectly and is very clear.

That's a nice CZ there warlock,
I have several 527s, including a .17 hornet in both varmint and American, I like the varmint better, but mine has been chopped back to 20" and now has a suppressor, great bunny gun, I see you looking at a scope upgrade, I have a Leopold 2x7x33 with fine redical duplex, on one of mine, it a nice little compact scope. think they would be not bad price in the USA. think its a VX-2. Enjoy your new rifle, |

Had my 527 Varmint 17 Hornet cut back to 21in. when it was threaded and nearly always run it suppressed. Something about shooting these little 17 Hornets suppressed, that just makes me smile. |

That's part of the reason I got the Varmint model. Eventually it will get cut and threaded.
I'm still shopping for scopes... It'll be a while before I buy one, but all suggestions are welcome. |

17 Hornet
More scopes you might consider are the 2-7x and 3-9x Weaver 22 scopes. Very compact and look good on the CZ's. The crosshairs cover 1/2" at 100 yards, my main reason for using them. Most big game scopes cover 1".
I have also used the Redfield Accu Range scopes in 3-9x50 and 4-12x40. Just put the circle on a gopher and squeeze. I tried the 2-7x Accu Range and it obliterated the view of the gophers, cross hair and circle were too thick. I also use the VX2 3-9x40 with the Leupold dot. All the scopes are set on 6x for most shooting out to 200 yds. I tried out a Leupold VX3i 3.5-10x40 with a 223. 90 shots,1 shot at 10x, 1 at 3.5x and all the rest were quite comfortable set at 6x. I use a Leupold VX3 6.5-20x40 30mm on my 20 VarTarg. Why? Just because I have it and thought it was the right scope for the job. Very seldom gets moved off the 6.5 x. |

What do I get with the 17H compared to the 22H ?? I know more velocity but what about damage distance, I use the 22H out to about 200-250 yds, what's the practical range of the 17H for varmints ? Cheaper or equal to 22H for reloading ? heard the 17 is more barrel damaging than 22H CZ 527 varmint in 17H or rebarrel my 22H to 20AIH Don |

I have Weaver V16's on mine and a few others varmint guns, and absolutely love them. I DO like windage hash marks for longer range, but for what I use the .17HH out to 250-275yds., the V16 AO is perfect.
