17 squirrel is pretty small. The rim is a good thing in TC's IMO.

The .22 TCM is indeed "neat," but if small is what you're after, the .17HH would be your least complicated "best bet," and not everyone is going to have a Contender pistol barrel chambered in that caliber. Beyond that, why not consider the .20 Vartarg for your TC? Equally unusual, very accurate and as a bonus you'd get a brighter muzzle flash If you don't want to fool around with forming brass, Ramos on this forum often has some already formed brass for sale. The .22 TCM brass from Armscor is inexpensive and long lasting too. You can form it from any .222 head size case, but it's labor intensive.

Whether this may aid in your decision making or may simply cloud the issue, I dunno, but that's what discussions are all about, not?

Cool

The more you describe what you are wanting, the more I think you should checkout the 19 Calhoon on James Calhoon's web page!
I have had many of his rifles, shot thousands of his 19 cal Double-hollow point and Saber tip bullets! Not a better varmint system can be found! And it is high on the "Unique Scale"! It gets raised eyebrows wherever they are shot!
Impressive performance and I think you can still get MGM to do a Contender barrel for you-others can do it also!
Just another suggestion but way up there in the "Not Everybody Has One" category!
Bill

Welcome to the board.
Hell of a deal: Wife wears the pants, and you don't hunt.
Be happy SHE LETS you even have a gun!!

So, what do you shoot at? Paper? You need to get with someone that
does some hunting and learn there's more to life than taking orders
from a woman, even if she's your wife!!
Hey, BTDT and regret every minute of it even after she's been gone 14yrs. I'm still trying to catch up on the lost 20 years.

Lay it out here as to what you want to do with whatever your dream is.
We'll help you decide, or confuse you so much you'll just have to go buy half dozen to satisfy your newly found desires. Guns are much like a can of worms, you can't pick JUST ONE and be happy!!

Enjoy the board and don't be afraid to ask.

You have found the place to be. There is not a more polite and informative group anywhere else. Your budget will help determine what your next purchase will be. Something based off the Hornet case would be a good choice. A shortened Hornet case would be a good place to start with a TC.
