I really doubt that you would have a usable bullet doing that. It's quite a large reduction and the tip will most likely get pushed out or deformed.

Loose lead cores would also be a problem as the copper jacket would spring back more than the lead inside.

No, this will not work. Try a couple and you will quickly see why it is a bad idea. You can swage a couple of thou but not a couple of hundredths.

The 53gr Vmax, in comparison to other 22cal bullets of similar weight, is a far bit different and unlike most others because it has a very short bearing surface.

I'm not a bullet maker so I don't know if that would make it easier or more difficult to size it down to 20 cal but if it worked, without causing bullet construction issues, it could make for a sweet, high BC, 20 cal bullet.

What about a 50 TNT? No tip, but flat base and short bearing surface.

You can but it will shoot like crap. I really don't get why anyone wants to do this. There is no shortage of good 204 bullets all the way to 55 grains, though you do need a faster than normal twist once you get over 40 grains. Realistically if you want to shoot 45 grain plus bullets just move up to a 220 Swift or 22-250. Once you get that heavy in .204 you are losing the biggest advantages of the smaller bore.

For my 20-222, I'm happy with the line up of current bullets, but I also have a fast twist 20-250 and short of custom bullets, the line up is pretty thin.

Barrel life on the 20-250's isn't real long and I probably have enough 55gr Bergers to last through both barrels, but I wouldn't complain about a 53-ish grain Hornady tipped bullet in 20 cal either.

I'm pretty picky about what I am willing to try and highly doubt I'd ever put anything like a swagged down bullet in any of my guns, but just out of curiosity, I wouldn't mind seeing what one looked like.

Has anyone tried the .204 45 grain Hornady soft point? I don’t know how they shoot but they are in your desired weight range.
