17 ah
What do you guys that have the 17 AH think is the maximum shooting range on Groundhogs?

Pretty soon I am going to watch them all in reverse order so that I can watch those F Class guys GO HOME and leave us alone so that we can shoot Highpower Rifle. |

For clean kills, about 150 yards; for hits only, around 250. JMO

Bullet energy and expansion isn't generally the limiting factor, it's all about shot placement.
What ever distance you can keep your hits in the head and chest area under the prevailing conditions determines your effective range. |

I killed a coyote with my .17 AH at 205 yards. It squirmed around for a few seconds but did not run off. I've also killed a few others at up to about 150 yards and a fox at about 220 yards so suspect a .17 AH would kill a groundhog very reliably at 200 yards (20-gr Hornaday V-Max bullets at 3,650 fps at muzzle).

A little less than an inch high is a little less than an inch low at 200 yards. So on a coyote it was pretty much a dead on hold. - DON

Don't know about the OP, but my usual point of impart is going to be the chest/heart/lung area on any coyote. Bill K

Right on Bill.
That's where I was taught to shoot elk too. They don't get away when hit in the lungs. Might run 50-200yds but, that's where they'll expire
