Default 17 Cal 30 Grain

anyone try BlackHole Bullets see they are selling two types of 30 grain 17 cal.

I am going to try the 20 cal 45 gr in my 20 PPC with 1 in 8 twist barrel. Like the 55 gr Bergers but only about 3400 feet per second..

If they are accurate, I'm sure they'll kill called coyote just fine though. I'd think MPBR has got to take a noticeable hit with those stubby shapes and big meplats though. Not important to some, a significant consideration for others.

I favor all the PBR I can get in a calling rifle, even though the big majority of shots are slam dunks. I still like knowing I have the death ray on my side when I decide to shoot at one that's hung up and don't know and don't want to care whether the coyote is 285 or 335 yards away.

Retaining velocity down range is a huge factor in the 20 cal and under family. For coyote I want to see 2" of initial penetration then 1-3" of wound channel. I shoot a lot of sleeping coyote, unless the wind is strong, if ranged under 250 yards I take the head shot. I really like to come in at angle to the outside ear. Then they have to lift and turn their head slightly to see me, this also allows for a tight behind the shoulder shot if windy, or in light winds a 250-300 yard shot. In the past head shots were kept under 200, but with the Lilja barrel and 29-30 gr bullets my range has been extended. I have Berger, WCD, and Vining bullets(25-30 gr) enough to shoot out the Lilja and probably enough to seriously wear a new barrel.

I have not tried the 17 cal. But did the Blackhole 204(20 Cal) 35 grain cup base/tipped. They are devastating on squeeks and coyote. Accurate and explosive. If that will help you. Bill K

I've shot some of his 30gr FB and cupped base bullets. They shoot VERY well in my 17BR.

My brother and I have shot quite a few coyotes with the black hole 30 gr fb, they seem to work just as well as the Nagel’s both in accuracy and terminal performance, they go right through the shoulder and don’t exit.

Edit- we are shooting them out of 17-204s

I haven't killed any coyotes with them. I was using them to try for a 1000 yard rock chuck.
