Default Wtb cheap howa 223 or 204

I am putting together a 6x45 rifle and need a howa donor in either 223 or 204. Condition doesn't matter. Don't care if the barrel is bent. Basically just needing a cheap action. Was seeing if anyone had anything they would get rid of.

It's a wise choice in the Howa for the 6x45....

I would not recommend the smaller miniaction, as I have and love it as is.

But, the Mini magazine is, in my opinion, barely long enough for the 223 and 204...the standard (with a bit longer action/magazine), and this may already be what you are looking for, has enough room in the mag to accommodate the 6x45 cartridges.

just thought I would throw that out there for consideration. I have been impressed with the Howa quality and out of the box accuracy! Just the small inconvenience of the poor mag release, is the only flaw. I even like the feel of the Houge model stock they offer on these rifles. Just a good solid performing rifle at a bargain price!!!!

I paid $519 NIB Green incl. shipping for the Miniaction in 223, and the regular 223 action rifle in Black was $466 shipped (which is the model I would look at for the magazine to easily handle the 6mm length 223 cartridges)....hard to beat that price delivered. Factory ammo in 223 with 40 grain Vmax bullets just barely has clearance in the miniaction magazine.

If this needs confirmation, you can PM me, and I will send pics of the mini magazine loaded with 223s and also 6x45....

Good luck....

Bill

Not so...scroll down further the 223s are $399...That;s still a bargain...but the 22 250s are a heck of a bargain, at $150 less, if that is one is looking for
$399 is still a pretty good price for a barreled action...Me, I would go for the $466. This includes the stock, magazine, and shipping...that seems the better deal...but...

Another thought:
At $250 on the 22 250, it might be worth doing a 6PPC with one of those... the bases of the cartridges are so close in dimension...even if one had to by a Grendel extractor from Howa, it would be a heck of a 6mm build for pretty cheap.

Idea:

buy a 22-250 @ $250,
Ebay has 223 complete bolts for 10 to 40 $s
pull the 22 250 barrel and sell it,
Build your 6x45 for under $300 (all new parts) + barrel cost and shipping.
Just a thought of how I would skin that cat....
I have done part-swap like this for years with CZs, they just are not at the bargain prices they used to be....Howa seems to have swallowed that niche..
just a thought...
Bill

P.S. Another note: never pay more for a ten-shot magazine, the spacer can be popped out of the 5-shot and "Wallah!" its a ten-shot...Mags & their components, are identical except for the spacer....

Bill

Thanks for your time in helping. Where are the 223 bolts on eBay listed. I didn't have any luck finding one.

Here they are:

There's just two types of bolts: LG & SM (223. 222. 204)

Bill, you cheap sucker! I like how you think!

A couple things of note. You will need a different magazine box if you go from 22-250 to 223 using the 1500 short-action; this is different from the mini action. The mag box length of the 1500 short action doesnt allow for much or any additional length over saami spec IIRC. Maybe someone can check this. I traded my Howa 223 to a buddy who just had to have it; a mistake on my part.
