I don't know for sure if this would work for you or not, but I've rigged several Savages for single shot by just using an appropriate size and length of dowel fit into the magazine and sanded enough for the bolt to clear it, then hog out some wood from the dowel to fashion a cartridge tray and away you go. Takes a little time and effort, but once done, works like a charm.

I ran into a couple of issues yesterday with the follower in a .223. I was shooting some Fiocchi ammo thru it and the 40 vmax would hang up every time and the 50 vmax would 50 %. This ammo almost seems like it is not chamferd and I think that is why I never had any issues with my handloads. Thinking back, I think it did the same from the magazine, with that ammo! I had to jiggle it with the first round every time. I might need to do a little work on the feed ramp.

My issue was the cartridge fell to the left or right side of the feed lips. Jeff |

I am really tempted to put a little JB between the follower and the feed ramp. I make drop the front of the ramp down a little and try it first. It fits perfectly, and if I set the round in and flick it up it is flawless but if I just set a round in it will occasionally hang up. Like I said before I think it's a Savage flaw.
