17 Fireball
Went to reduce the gopher population a couple of days ago. Took the 17AH hornet and the fireball. Intended to shoot the hornet primarily but decided to go with the fireball first since I had not used on the gophers before. Needless to say the fireball does an outstanding job of teaching skippy to fly. Shot it until I was out of ammo-- what fun. As much as I like the hornet and the job it does I don't see the FB staying at home from the next excursion. What a great gopher blaster.

Sounds like fun. I have been shooting the local ground squirrels several hours north of you, using my Marauder 22 PCP air gun, nothing but the Thwamp of the hit, what a dissapointment, lol.
I have the same issues in my nor cal efforts with the 17's (HH and 17Fball), but am trying to expend my lead bullet ammo before next July. Have you converted to lead free 17's yet? Allen |

Haven't found any lead free 17's, however the lead free (varmint grenades) in the 20 vartarg and the 22K hornet shoot very bit as good as lead. Skippy ain't getting no reprieve. In addition, the lead free in the 22 mag shoots pretty good too.

I have no problem using and finding lead free for the 20 and 224 calibers. Have some really accurate loads worked up. But we need a source for some good lead free for our 17 calibers, with the upcoming laws in Kommie Kalifornia. Bill K

17 Fireball
Go to the Hodgdon Data load site and check out the load for CFE Blk, 4198 or some A 2200 and you will find starting loads of around 18.5 grains, work up, in your rifle, and find one that gives you the accuracy you want, then stick with it. along with the 20-25 grain bullets, of your rifles choice also.
