17 Hornet loads
I have a CZ 527 in the 17 Hornet.............took me a while but I found that in my rifle it shoots super with 12.5gr of N120 and the 20gr Nosler Hollow Point seated to 1.700 COAL. Could not find any N120 and had only two lbs and then stubbled onto 10lbs in a little gun shop south of here. I got all 10 1lb cans............... Looking to work up a load using the 25gr Bergers or the 26gr Reeds RBBT HP's using N120 right close to 11.8gr..........will see what happens.
The load with the 20gr Noslers have been better than expected. Lots of groups in the .4's |

I'm certainly no expert but 12.5 grs. of 120 under a 20 gr. bullet or 11.8 grs. under a 25 gr. bullet seems just a little stout.

I was thinking the same thing when I read that so I ran it through my QuickLoad program and that load, loaded to a COAL of 1.700, shows a fill ratio of over 119%. That must be a significantly compressed load.

Blackout works very well in the .17 hornet, I used to use N120, but black out gives several hundred FPS more speed for marginal less accuracy.
Don't have data on hand, but I've posted it in here sum place. Your N120 charge weight are quite a bit more than, I found suitable in both my CZ .17 hornets, Be carefull on a hot day. Last edited by southernman; 06-24-2018 at 05:22 PM. |

.17 Hornet loads
Todd Kindler's Sensational Seventeens calls for a Max of 11.8 gr of N-120 with a 20 gr. 3605 fps. 25gr. Woodchuck Den, 11.0 for 3258 fps. with N-120. Be careful & have a good day. Dave

10.0 to 10.4gr N120 is on the money in my 17AH and thats a bigger case tan 17HH.

I was working up loads/collecting data going up a tenth of a grain using a chargemaster to weigh each charge and that is how I load all my .17 AH ammo when I settle on a load. |

I'm getting about the same velocity with 11.8 grs of 120 along with 20 gr. Berger and 205M primer. I'm also shooting a 38 Cooper and getting consistent 5 shot 100yd. groups right around a quarter inch. Quarter inch groups and velocities approaching 3700 ft/sec ain.t all that bad.

Don’t discount Small Pistol Primers with 4198
Seeing 4198 loads are usually lower pressure I thought I’d try Winchester small pistol primers. 11.4 is very promising with the Midsouth HP 20s. More after I verified it wasn’t a fluke.

Well, it’s verified. 11.4 is a sweet spot. I have a sneaking suspicions .8 grains more would be another node. Also guessing SB primers would do well at that load.
