Appreciate all the replies. I feel confident in this new tube now, thanks.

I just sent a text to the guy I sold the 700/243 to. Asking him to
measure the twist. I never did. It was close to half incher with the 100-105s.
Don't recall I ever shot it over 200 and for sure never 300yds.
Troy said he's "been hammering a white rock at 800yds with 105's. Not sure which bullet but ,know the wt. It sure blew antelope over on their sides instantly with the 100's. OF course two were spined high on the shoulder, but, the other two were lung shots from the side and same result. I'm mighty impressed with that and this .243 cartridge. I just looked up my loads: 35gr 4895 likely H, chrono notes show avg 2937fps. I expect some over 3000fps in this 26" tube. Won't know til likely next year.

Don't think I've ever seen a 107gr, and never used or had any VLD's. Believe what I've shot and have half a 5 gal bucket loaded of 'em are C/L's. Both wts, don't seem to matter which separate or mixed on targets. It's a 24". This barrel is 26" as that's what all my rifles have and I like 'em long.
Wish mine was too!

The only time I ever shot lighter bullets in it was 60gr on coyotes. Blew one's head off with a base of neck hit at 80yds, Just 2" of skin on top held it on. The other was a rib shot and could have run a football clear thru that one. Ruined both hides. By then my Sako .223 rebuild was done so I didn't destroy anymore. Seems I killed 21 before fur season was over after getting the 223 rebuilt.

Johnly, seems I've given you my ph#, if not, say so and I will. Be nice to meet you. Unless my number is picked before then, I should be here.

Default Update

Two things today.

Troy said the 700/.243 has a 9 1/8" twist.

Took the barrel and things to my gunsmith this after noon.
Don't know if or whenever he'll get around to it. His wife died
this morning. Re: Jack Bayuk in case some of you others are
around these parts or know him.

Got the K-38 back that I found with 1/16" of rust all over it, then soaked two days in vinegar to get it off. Took the finish right down to the metal.
Barrel is pitted too bad for him to polish out, didn't want to make it worse
as he didn't recognize the metal. Different from any other S/W's he's seen bare. Action was a real mess. Saved all the parts, got it working good, polished n blued the cylinder, painted the rest flat black with that gun finish many of us have been acquainted with. Main thing is, it's working again. I wouldn't have been too surprised it would be junk the shape it was in when I first found it.
Sure made me sick to see it like that as it was always perfect condition.

Lesson learned: Keep them oiled and away from a swamp cooler! Strange thing, three Blackhawks were in the same box with this. They were in leather holsters, this was in nylon. I've always thought leather soaked up water. Not a spot on anything except this one. Something to think about. I put the nylon holster in with a load of laundry and it came out nice n clean. That would have ruined a leather one.

1 in 8 is the twist the majority of folks are using for most 105-107 grain bullets. I ordered a 1-7.5 for my 243 shooting the heavies. I think that Berger is now saying 1 in 7 for their 105 Hybrids.

Default Twist rate won't be your problem...

The Shaw barrel will be. Replaced lots of them cause they won't shoot compared to the better barrels. Send it back and find a Pac-Nor, Lilja, Hart.
Avoid Douglas, Shaw, Shilen. Shilen ok for 22 lr but won't last for fast cartridges.
Good luck.

We'll see!
Chucker I think you're trying to pass BS!

I got one of those $70 el cheapo A&B's from Midway. .223/14:1
It's been a one hole shooter since new after I sorted
thru a bunch of bullets and found the one's it liked best.

40gr V'max: 10 shots several times under 1/4", .230" best two ten shot groups. C/L's about .450" for five many times.

I fully expect the same thing with this one.
I got this as it's half the cost of those you named. They've
been in business much longer than most of those you listed too.
I'd bet they've figured things out by now.

I put a Douglas on the .358U/M I had built. It's shooting well so far.
Though I haven't really fired it much with the big loads yet. From what
I've seen it's going to be just fine. Only problem I've had with it so far
is the recoil. With these replaced shoulders I'm concerned about wrecking
the R one. Had a pad made up that covers more area, so that shouldn't
let it hurt me but, still the wallop is plenty and more than I expected from a
15lb rifle.

Thanks for your concern though.

Funny thing generaly I can be full of bs but today I looked and I have a brown ring around my neck so evidently I'm a quart low....

I have seen rifles brought in to be fixed cause they will not shoot to the expectation of the customer. Quite a few of them which show up with Shaw barrels end up in a barrel replacement.

Best of luck to you my friend.

We'll see, most likely next spring.
When the results are known, I'll let it
be known how it shoots.
For now, I've got faith it'll be a fine shooter.
Might take some bullet sorting but, I'll bet
it will shoot just fine for my use. I'm a hunter
not a bench rester.

Glad you notice the brown ring at times,
some of us need to do that. Hope it washes off!
