Got my suppressor mounted on this rifle now, seems like my pet load should still work.

Getting more brass ready, does anyone here have a 4.6x30 reamer? I shoot Fiocchi brass in my other rifle...I pulled some bullets the other day off the factory 4.6x30 ammo and dinged up the extractor groove in the process. I'm wondering if I should just build something to fire the factory ammo in and then use the brass for my 17VHA.

I use LEJ cases in the 17HK, reamer is a little tighter spec.

The Mighty 17HK on the work bench!

Carried the bench 50 yds to the top of this rise, worked very well, shot there for the day. Didn't think there were enough dogs there, but they kept coming out. Ran out of ammo on the one and finished with the 17VHA. Suppressors make a difference, I'm convinced now.

Looks like it needs a thicker recoil pad! Got to love it.

This has been a really good and ongoing project and report.

Could someone share the ballpark size/capacity difference between the 17 VHA and the 17 Hornady Hornet.

Thanks,,, Dave

17 Hornady Hornet............................................ .....17 VHA
Case Capacity (est): 15.0 gr. water............................Case Capacity (est): 14.5 gr. water

I have read somewhere that Hornady cases stamped with large letters have a little more volume than cases stamped with smaller letters.

I really like that diagram, I don't have any LEJ cases for mine, but the same essentially as your diagram. for the reamer print matched to the FL die.

My DAG cases are apparently a tad thick so give me 12.75gr H2O measured capacity to the top of the case mouth for a FL fireformed case like yours.

Shoulder on mine is .306", with a 40° angle.

Default Great thread...

One of the neat things about getting older is seeing that this 5 year old thread is still going and me thinking what a cool new thread, this is just like the old Saubiers site I loved so much and then seeing I posted the same thing I am thinking today. What a very cool, efficient case. What a neat rifle.!

Default Stolen reloading supplies

All my 17vha reloading equipment was stolen,

Does anyone have brass to spare? 100 here 100 there, anything included 4.6x30 brass would help.

Hutch

I should have some once fired 4.6x30 brass laying around, not sure on headstamp though..

Took the 17HK out again this summer, I can't overstate how much I love shooting these smaller cases. The lack of recoil is fantastic during a long day on the prairie.

Still fire -forming cases, have several hundred formed now, one of these days I will have to push the shoulder back on them, as of right now, I just run them through my Lee Collet NS die, and reload.
