Default 20 Practical ?

I've seen numerous posts about the bullet seating function for the 20P with the Hornady "universal" 20 cal seating die, or other brands. I guess my google fu is not up to snuff these days, so can someone post a link or the item number of the die you use to seat the bullet for the 20P??

I have a 204R die set and several 223 die sets and I'm under the impression I can use a 223 bullet seater die but would like to make it easy on myself and get a 20 cal seater die for this setup.

Default 20 Practical

6 BR has a 20cal article very near the top of home page . The 20 Practical is discussed in detail with modifications for Redding seating dies.

Personally i'd give your 204 seating die a try. Mock-up a cartridge or 2.

20 Practical is my favorite cartridge for prairie dog country.

This is the number for the Hornady die I use to seat bullets in a 20 Tactical. 044139.

I use standard Redding .223 type S bushing dies and their .223 seating die with a .20 stem.

Good read on making 20P ammo here:

Same here, Redding 223 AI seater (for a 20-223 AI). To make the 20 Practical rounds for fireforming, I use a Lee 223 seater. If I was buying a seater die especialy for this, I'd want a RCBS competition seater, to take advantage of it's upper seating window for handling the small bullets more easily during seating.

I always see reference to using the Redding bushing die on this wildcat. Never see anything on the RCBS bushing die, is there any particular reason?

I FL size my AR 20p brass with rcbs 223 die. Use a Redding 223 neck bushing die to size neck and the rcbs seating die with a 204r rcbs seating stem. The rcbs sizing die has a decapper in it that measures 0.199, so I'm not working the neck at all when sizing the body and shoulder. I set the inside neck size/tension with a mandel, I may switch over to gage pins held in a rcbs bullet puller collet so I can "customize" the inside neck size cheaper. All the die bodies I picked up on clearance sales over the years, so I didn't have to buy anything to start loading 20p ammo.

And also, if you go to AccurateShooter.com on the left side of main page, hit the 20 cal spot and it also details the 20 practical and how to make your 223 dies work. Bill K

204 seater might be too tall for 20P if the case goes all the way into the body chamber.

Hornady universal 20 cal seater works fine, I like it better than using the 223 seaters. #044139

I could not get seating 223 die to work. Redding sent me the 20 cal seating stem. Problem solved. I don't remember if it was v-max or Nosler the 223 seater would not handle.
