35 Grain VMax .22 Caliber Question
Does anyone have any of the 35 Grain Hornady VMax bullets around that can measure the length for me. I have some of the 35 grain Nosler Varmegeddon bullets that shoot really well out of my 218 Mashburn Bee. I just got a 22 Hornet and I'm playing around with some different loads. The Nosler's are shooting okay but I'm wondering if the VMax would shoot better. Looking at pictures they look darn near the same length. Just curious what the Vmax actually measures.

I have it. My files for the Hornady 35gr VMAX show min length 0.517" and max length 0.518" for 5 that I measured. Bullet ID number was 22252. These were measured around 10 years ago. I measured them with a micrometer, not a caliper.
I have four Hornets, and three of them like the 40gr VMAX much better for accuracy and performance. In any kind of wind, the 35gr VMAX get blown all over the place, much more so than the 40gr VMAX. Hope this helps. |

I measure the 35 grain NTX at .728 and the 35 grain Nosler BTLF at .705, if that helps you.
The chart posted shows the other various bullet lengths and that is one fine chart to keep on file. Bill K |

I've used 35gr V-Max, 35gr Nosler, and the lead-free lightweights from Hornady and Barnes. All of them work real well in my .221FB and .22TCM. If I were working with a Hornet, I'd make sure they will fit in a magazine and load accordingly, and might add a touch of a crimp with a Lee factory crimp die.

The 35 are excellent to about 150 yards in all of the Hornets I have tried them in. Even the factory ammo will shoot half inch. The grouping really falls apart after 150 yards and even less if it is windy. I too vote for the 40 Vmax or Blitzking as all round better bullets for the Hornet and anything bigger.
