I'd stick to the 25's in the Rem., personally.

The Golds have higher BC than the old Berger 30's. Kill about the same, far as I could ever tell. But I have way less experience using the Bergers. Do still have quite a few on the shelf though, just in case .

hope you don't mind me slightly derailing this thread with a question DAA and Ct17.

I have a question for each of you.

DAA since you have a ton of experience with the 17's whats your take on bullet weight per cartridge. I've seen you say the fireball excells with the 25's I think and the 17 rem and larger with 30's. guess my question is if Ct17 were able to make a 25-27gr bullet with the same form factor as the 30 to boost BC (much like a lapua scenar with a void in the nose) do you think this could be a happy middle ground?

Ct17 is it possible to put the same core as your 25gr bullets but with the 30gr jackets and same length as the 30gr? i'd assume the extra jacket length would add a grain or two to the weight of the bullet. curious minds want to know.

The 27s are made on on the same jacket as a 30 grain and I could make a bullet that weights 25 in that jacket I’m sure Todd
Might have tried it but with the jackets I have left till
I get more I hate to play with them experimenting them when I know that the 30s are tried and tested but I have came up with a new bullet design I been playing with it about a week and started shooting it today and I like it better than the 30s bthps I plan to test it on coyotes tonite

Sent you a email message re: that new bullet and a question or two. Could be interested in trying them in a 17 FB on coyotes also. Bill K

Default new .17 golds

I have a lot of the older 17 cal berger 25 grain's with the smaller hollow point, can someone tell me if these bullets I have are the # needed 17308 don't seem to do a good job on coyotes, work very well with pd's
# on my boxes is17407, and 17007
I shoot a re-barreled Remington 700 and wasn't smart enough to put a 1 - 9 twist on it, it shoots 29 grain wcd bullets very well, and works really well om dogs, if I can;t find any more 29 grain bullets, I might have to go back to 25
Might have to break down and buy Rocklongs 17 barrel
