Default 20DASHER case forming

20DASHER is formed from the parent 6mmBR case.
Using a bushing die, the neck is reduced to 20 Calibre from 6mm and then fireformed to produce the 40degree shoulder.

Does it go from 6mm to 20 cal. or are there steps in between? I could see a 22 br die coming in pretty handy.

Default Does the dasher...

need to be annealed? If so...At which point do you do this? What is the case life like, and barrel life?

Default okay...more information

oaky...I'll layout procedure step by step.

Using the 6mmBR parent calibre brass which has a .267" neck

Run brass through a 22BR Form Trim die (Redding #83316) using a shell holder extentsion for the RCBS press. The result is .254" neck

Next, run brass through 22BR Full length die, remove the guts from the die (Redding #91316) The result is .243" neck

Run through a 6mmBR Type-S Neck die (Redding #71317)
Replace the lareg decapping rod with a 17MK 1V decapping rod assembly w/.204" expander ball
Use the .235" bushing ...Result is .235" neck

Next, run through the same Type-S die but with a .231" bushing
Result is .231" neck

Now, I install the primer, and proceded to fireform this case.
I've used the cream of wheat method which includes 11.0 gr. 700X powder.

Next, I'll resize the brass in my custom Hornady Type S bushing die with a
.231" bushing. My trim length is 1.5560"
I seat the bullets with s custom order Hornday 20DASHER competition seater.

Default re:fireforming

Could this round be fireformed by loading, and firing with a bullet, say hunting? Or is this not accurate enough until fire formed?

I have a lot of questions, I know. I recently got 3 barrels I ordered, and they are burning my safe down. I am thinking that i want to do one in either a ppc, or beggs, or BR, with a 9 twist.

Thanks in advance.

larry

Edit: I forgot to mention dasher as one of my choices.

Default glad to provide the information

Phil > glad to help...
Larry > yes, the fireforming process can be accomplished by loading the bullet of your choice. The 1:9 is quickly becoming the most popular twist for 20Cal's
