I know it’s counter intuitive but I tried some CFE223 and it shot a 5-Shot group right at an inch. I’m going to try similar loads with a Rem 7 1/2 primer instead of a CCI450 and see how it goes. I may try Varget after this, but I’m pretty confident that this will work. I appreciate all the input and will keep you posted. Andy |

Re: Gremlins
Use a barrel with enough difference between the lands and groove diameter, and it should not be a problem.

Does anyone have any good loading data using Reed's 32gr jacketed bullets? I haven't tried them but I did have good luck with Win760. With 30gr in a 1-9 twist. Good luck and keep us posted. I very curious about this myself since I only have about 50 30gr left.

32gr progress
Will do, I loaded up some yesterday. Today was way to hot for testing. So maybe tomorrow. I’ll keep people posted.

Seating depth
It looks promising, next you might adjust the seating depth. I've seldom had bettered the accuracy by moving the bullet further from the lands. If you haven't tried some touching the lands you might be missing out. (Reduce your charge by a grain, due to increased initial pressure, if you do this).
As an example I stumbled on to a .223 rem load of 23.2gr of H322 under a Sierra 52gr HPBTM lit by a CCI BR4 SR. Loaded out to touch the lands it shot a bunch of tiny groups in my 16.25" TC, hardly expands or hurts the brass and gets about 2700fps. Accuracy in my opinion always is better than velocity if the velocity doesn't come with enough accuracy. Last edited by 17tbs; 05-29-2018 at 01:52 PM. |

I’ll try that...
I’ll try that with the seating depth. That is typically what I’d do. I’m going to let it sit for a while as it’s now prairie dog season and I won’t use these on them except in the fall to see how they perform before I try taking a coyote with them.
I think I’m close though. Im also going to chrono them to See The results. Thanks for the help!! |

I've had guns that loved the bullets seated way of the lands. Most of the time I start close and work my way off. I like to try bergers vld seating depth test with most bullets. My 6mm-284 shot 55gr btips best .120" OFF the lands. Bullet almost started tapering in the case mouth.

I have a .204 that likes it less than recommended OAL too

Maybe I missed it but where are you seating these in relation to touching the lands? Have some 32's I'm about to start loading in a 17-204. |
