17 squrriel keyhole
Finally got to shoot my 17 Squrriel and at 35 yards with 20 grain H-VMAX my bullets are keyhole and I mean a horrible group perhaps 3 inches.
These are not my reloads but was told there loaded in the middle of the powder range which I dont think its a powder issue. Any input would be welcomed. |

I havent checked it but I don't have a lot of options as far as changing bullet weights, there is really not much to choose from. And Im thinking if I would go to a 25 grain it would probably even make it worse.

Not sure if this will help your problem, but my FIL had an unstable hornady plastic tipped 223 bullet and the hornady tech suggested he use a pair of players and remove the plastic tips. It fixed his problem!

Farmer44 my 17/223 keyholed 20g V Max. I switched to 25 FBHP's and never had a problem after that. Have got no idea why they were keyholing or why the 25's didn't.

Nosler makes a 17 caliber, 20 grain bullet in hollow point or tipped. Might be something else to try.
